Whining noise when revving engine in neutral

Dec 27, 2018 · I changed the transmission fluid and filter using the ACDELCO 24208576 deep pan OEM kit. I have filled it, and in neutral it has a whining sound in gear it does not. The fluid is at the right level on the dipstick, anyone have any advice/help on this really baffled? thanks

there is a whine that is taking place when the car is being revved. It is also prevalent when the car is been driven and goes into higher RPMs. It sounds almost like there is an electric motor running on the car and it follows the revving almost perfectly. It doesn't make the noise when I am driving and I put in neutral. The transmission was not disconnected from the engine, the engine just got lifted a little bit to replace the mounts. Also, the bolts on the rear u-joint were tightened because they were very loose but the sound is coming from the front even in neutral. Apr 24, 2018 · This is a very noisy condition, but usually not an expensive fix. Replace the fan or bend the shroud back out of the way. If your loud whirring or clicking does now get louder when the engine is revved higher, it may be an electric fan. Open the hood while you can hear the noise and see if your fan is on. If you don't hear it revving at a standstill but do when moving, it's more likely to be in the drivetrain (or that pesky filter mount). But what puzzles me is you can't make the noise revving the engine in neutral at a standstill but you can revving it in neutral when the car is rolling down the road. That doesn't make any sense to me. May 30, 2014 · You could perhaps check if the whine is there when revving the engine in Neutral or Park. If not, it is probably transmission related. Feb 04, 2012 · 1: I have started hearing a whine coming from the engine compartment that increase/decreases with engine RPM. For those that are familiar with CB radios, it sounds just like alternator whine on a CB. Putting it into Neutral and revving confirmed it isnt the transaxle. When the engine speed drops to near idle (before it starts to buck), step on the clutch. Then put the car in Neutral and let the clutch out. If you keep your foot on the clutch pedal while coasting or waiting for the light to change, you're wearing out an important part of the clutch called the clutch release bearing.

And revving it up into some pretty decent rpm's and no load isn't exactly good for the engine, but hey, it sounds damn cool Edit: I assumed he had a manual. If its an antomatic, the engine will not rev past a certain point in park or neutral to protect the engine.

I have a 2006 nismo crew cab that I'm getting a whining noise when running the ac only, the noise will instantly go away if I turn the ac off. It will only do it in stop and go traffic, if I am on the high way it doesn't tend to make the noise, but if I stop at a few traffic lights when I take off I can hear the noise get louder as the engine revs. I press in clutch, rev, downshift, all is good. Engine is responsive and revs quick. But like I said above, if you put it in neutral, let clutch up and say are coasting to a stop, whatever, try revving it with clutch fully up. Thing won't rev or so there is no misunderstanding, the rev is night and day in terms of quickness/responsiveness.

If your Chevy Tahoe is experiencing a whining noise, its is often going to be caused by something in the engine compartment. The likely cause of whining noise will be determined by when you hear the noise, and under what conditions. With that in mind, this page is divided by when you hear the whining noise, and common causes under those conditions. ...- Internal engine damage, pistons, valve, head gasket etc. - Clogged catalytic converter. No fuel (Lack of fuel would cause an engine to crank but never start. Things that could cause lack of fuel are: - Bad fuel pump - bad fuel injector - open fuse or relay in fuel pump circuit - No gas, or bad gas - plugged fuel filter, or lines. 2.

  1. Overspeeding engine. I would rev my old Johnson 40HP in neutral both in water and on muffs to warm it up a little at times. My newer 200HP Optimax will give an alarm if you even attempt to rev in neutral and cut fuel (?) to reduce speed back to idle. Enjoy the boat. I bought my first with rotted floors and completely replaced and recarpeted mine.
  2. Purchased a new 2011 Audi A3 tdi last Saturday. The following Friday while pulling out into an intersection the dsg transmission briefly went into neutral and I saw the tachometer needle shoot up and heard the engine whine. I was in manual mode at the time. I down shifted and let off the gas and it re-engaged.

  5. Just got my GTO (37,000 mi) a week ago, bone stock except for LSS shifter. Just noticed now that between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM it makes a weird whining noise. Almost sounds reminiscent of a supercharger whine, though not as distinct. After the 3 grand range, it drops off. At idle, no noise -...

  7. My dad has a 97 Sierra with the 5.7 with 140k miles. Today I noticed a high pitch whining noise when accelerating that rises in pitch with the RPMs. It's especially noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear. It does it when you rev it in neutral, so I assume that's a good thing because it's probably not transmission or driveshaft related.
  8. With automatic transmissions, the engine is energizing or driving the transmission to move in the direction of the gear you've selected--forward or reverse. When you keep it in gear, you are telling your vehicle to move; when you're on the brakes, you're preventing motion.

Nov 20, 2019 · I have a whining noise coming from engine, checked with neutral & parking in gearbox too so its not from there. i was thinking it is coming from idler pulley, I ordered a gates poly v kit but when removed the belt, only the idler was producing noise. I replaced only this pulley and the belt and the whining noise is still there.
  12. Here is a video I just took of my engine. Notice there is no sound until the upper RPMs. This is in my driveway, vehicle in 2HI, Drive, with brake on. It will almost never make this sound just revving up in Neutral or Park.
  13. Noise is present when I am in neutral and rev the engine to above 2500 rpms. Edit: I should add, this is not a loud whine. It can not be heard above low volume on the radio. When I put my ear over the transmission area while in the car I can’t really hear anything. It is more pronounced when I put my ear towards the front of the car.
  14. Aug 04, 2011 · The whine is only after the trans warms up and is in drive or reverse, not in neutral. Whine is while the car is stationary or moving at low speed. The whine doesn't seem to change due to gear it is in. It does not change frequency with engine RPM.
  15. It is a high pitched whine that occurs in cold weather (20 degrees and lower) at speeds between 62 and 65 miles per hour. I’ve got a 2004 Jeep Wrangler SE 5-speed with 83,000 miles on the 2.4l PowerTech engine in it, and it’s making a very strange noise that I can’t pinpoint. So first, the noise itself.

  22. Jan 23, 2019 · Leaks in the exhaust are also not typically audible over regular engine noise but it's something you might be able to smell. Intake air leaks before the turbo are also not typically audible. When I test drove the XC40 I didn't really notice the turbo whine but I wasn't really listening for it.
  23. Jan 16, 2019 · The car starts up normal but when we put it in drive or reverse it sometimes wont go. And it will only rev like if we are in neutral. 25. Aug 31, 2009 · 1) ebrake on, 2) brake not pressed, 3) shift lever in park. if all of those checks pass, then the AIC will kick in which can do a small number of things. 1 is rev up to a certain rpm, 2 charge battery by revving up to an rpm of its choice, and maybe some others.
  26. It's perfectly possible, you just need to create a torque curve such that the engine's peak power enables it to rev that high, as well as setting the "maxRPM" factor to the desired amount. You probably also need to raise the engine durability factors so that the engine doesn't destroy itself at high RPM

  1. Oct 28, 2012 · By far the most annoying thing is the "rev hang", which makes the whine more noticable. If you have replaced the pulleys and belts, the only other whines (other than the normal 2.5l sounds) could be the alternator or AC compressor.

  6. A restriction to the fluid flowing through the filter often produces a noise. A restricted filter is a problem, but it is also a symptom. Debris from the transmission has plugged the filter and the source of the contaminants is the problem. A plugged transmission filter usually means severe damage.
  7. Re: Engine sounds like a turbo... engine whine If the chain is the right tension then probably knackered gearbox output bearing, though they usually leak oil when they're fucked. I don't think a knackered cam chain could make the sound you describe, they tend to rattle when the tensioner gets to the end of it's adjustment.

  10. Start with the control in neutral, no fast idle advance in the throttle, cables connected to the control. At the engine, determine which cable is throttle and shift. Shift cable is usually 1/2 way out, throttle will be all the way out or all the way in- this is at the cable ends. Disconnect both cables from the engine.

I was out on my zilla tonight, and started it revving a little high, so i figured it was starting to run out of gas, so i switched it to reserve, then it started running full throttle,(throttle wasn't sticking) screaming, i pushed the kill switch, turned the key off and it was still revving like hell, so i turned the gas off, it didn't stop till it ran out of gas in the line, it was constantly ...
  14. My EP3 makes this whining noise when accelerating, very obvious from 2k rpm up til VTEC noise takes over. it is very annoying when cruising on highway. 17. When the engine is revved to 2800-2900 rpm, there is a peculiar whining kind of noise which appears, it looks like a whine but it could be a whoozing sound too, I am not sure!
